Fluoride has made me sick in the past, is it mandatory during every cleaning?

No.: You always have the right to say no. Fluoride can be very helpful, though, so a better alternative is finding some way to do it without getting you sick. You shouldn't be swallowing any. Maybe if they use less fluoride, and put it on for less time, it can be comfortable for you.

No: Some people do feel sick after getting the Fluoride treatment. It is not mandatory during every cleaning visit but is helpful for preventing cavities. Another option is to ask if you dentist has the Fluoride varnish instead of Fluoride gel. The varnish sticks to the teeth better so you are less likely to swallow it.

Fluoride: Fluoride is one of the most abundant minerals on the earth. Therefore you are exposed to this often, unless you are swallowing a large quantity it will not make you sick to the stomach. You may be sensitive to other additives in the toothpaste. You don't need fluoride. If you don't have decay you can use soap to brush your teeth that's all toothpaste is flavored soap and sand.
