A member asked:

Is it normal to have cholesterol on the optic nerve?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Cholesterol is part of normal metabolism-your body actually makes the stuff. We are concerned about blood levels due to deposition in vascular lining. The optic nerve does have a blood supply and might have some changes similar to cholesterol elsewhere in the body. How did you discover cholesterol on your optic nerve? Recheck with your ophthalmologist and see if you heard this properly?
