A member asked:

Is it possible for someone without teeth to have infection in their gums?

Yes: An infected laceration or traumatized area due to a denture could become infected as well. There is a chance that a piece of tooth may remain in the area and be part of the problem. If you are concerned see your dentist.

Minor salivary glands in the soft lining mucosa of the mouth can also become damaged and jnfected swollen gums could be an underlying bone issue. Oral cancers, major salivary glands, and vascular changes in the tissues can all present as an appearance of an infection.
