A member asked:

How prevelent is hiv in usa compared to other countries? how common is it in heterosexuals female to male?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Common illness: We do not know the exact numbers because many people remain undiagnosed until end-stage aids occurs, but there are estimated to be 50, 000 new cases each year in the usa with a population of about 3.2 million. In some countries it is far more frequent (particularly in africa). Female to male transmission is less common than in the other direction.
