Methadone: Yes this is commonly used to treat addicts. Once stabilized on Methadone - you can be weaned off slowly without consequences as long as other aspects of the addiction are addressed as well.

Absolutely NOT: It is against federal law for a doctor for a doctor to prescribe opioids for any t type of opioid dependence except got suboxone/subutex . Methadone can be dispensed only by a licensed program.
