Evaluation: Different hospitals vary, but all should take your history and review your thoughts and/or plans for suicide. They should screen for ongoing depression, medication & drug use, and other conditions associated with suicidal thinking. In some hospitals, the er physician does this; in others, a psychiatrist or other mental health professional might be called. If needed, admission will be advised.
