Variable: Relationships have a huge impact on depression. When smooth, they can be supportive and encourage healing. When there's conflict, depressive symptoms can flare. Depressed people often overemphasize "negative" things and overlook positive ones. If both are in that mode at the same time, they will not be helping each other. Hopefully other friends and family can affect & help balance the system.

Possibly: There are positives and negatives it seems. The positives is that both of you would understand what depression is and how all consuming and painful it can be. If you are both going through an episode of depression at the same time, that could be difficult .. And may be a negative if you are both self-absorbed (a common feature) and unable to reach out to each other.

It might. : I know a couple with the man having depression and the wife being Bipolar they are happily married with cats for the last 25 years. Somtimes having a partner who understands, is a good idea. You have to decide after getting to know someone whether its a good idea or not. Consider their history in jobs/relationship and family and then decide. Talk to a counselor.
