Possibly: Gout is an inflammatory joint condition that can cause those symptoms, but usually waxes and wanes. A blood test called a serum uric acid level can be done, as well as obtaining a sample of joint fluid to look for microscopic crystals in the joint. It can be treated with medications and diet modification. Other potential causes of the pain could be tendonitis or a pinched nerve in your neck.
