Yes: It is more important to remain off of your foot and on crutches. Staying in bed for the first few days is very helpful to reduce the swelling.

Yes: It is important to stay off the ankle. It will help with pain and swelling. Less swelling means quicker recovery. Also less potential for falls and accidents. Certainly you can go to the restroom or kitchen if necessary.
