A member asked:

How helpful is acupuncture treatment?

5 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

It depends: There are always three factors involved in answering this kind of question: 1) the nature of the condition, 2) how responsive you are to acupuncture and 3) the skillfulness of the acupuncturist. Responsiveness is a built- in trait and 3-6 treatments will reveal how well you respond to acupuncture and if it is helping. Depending on how serious or chronic your condition, you may need more treatment.

Very: I think the fact that it has been practiced for over 5, 000 years is a testament to how beneficial acupuncture can be. It is taught in medical school in asian and many countries in europe.

Helpful for what?: Acupuncture (AP) is based on fanciful ancient notions that the body is the world in microcosm. AP has no basis in science. It never CURES anything because ancient medicine never really could cure anything. The best one can hope for is relief of symptoms. All systematic studies of AP's efficacy have been inconclusive. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3700431/
