Still growing: Teenagers are still growing and maturing and therefore need more sleep. However, unfortunately, they generally don't get enough. Some teens need 12 hours a day. Studies have shown that starting high school later in the morning led to higher achievement by the students, because they were better rested.

Teenagers and sleep: Teenagers still need more sleep than adults, between 8-10 hours per night depending on the age. This is a normal part of development. As they enter adulthood the brain is more mature and the need for more sleep lessens.
