Weeks of weakness: Valley fever is often mild and transient with symptoms very similar to routine viral upper respiratory tract infections or even pneumonia. Most cases probably don't even come to the doctor's attention. Symptoms of fatigue can last for weeks up to months.

Coccidiodomycosis is, as Dr. Fisher indicates, highly variable. You should be aware that this organism can also produce a very severe and difficult to treat form of meningitis.

San Joaquin Valley..: Fever is a fungal infection of humans (and some animals) caused by spores of coccidiodomycosis inhaled from soil. Many infections are totally without symptoms, some others can cause pneumonia which usually resolves without therapy but some infections lead to spread (dissemination) of the fungus outside the lung to the nervous system, bone or skin. Antifungals such as voriconazole are used.

In one to three weeks when they do occur they include fever, cough, chest pain that can be severe, chills, night sweats, headache, fatigue, joint pains and a red painful bumpy rash. It can take months to fully recover and you should be followed for dissemination.
