About 5 days.: Pronounced headache, fevers that increase over 3-4 days, and a dry, hacking cough starting up to 5 days after fevers start are the usual symptoms.

Psittacosis: Psittacosis (AKA parrot fever or ornithosis) is an infectious disease caused by Chlamydia psittaci bacteria & can be contracted from parrots, macaws, cockatiels & other bird species. Symptoms may include fever, cough, difficulty breathing, headache, chills, muscle pain & it can lead to pneumonia. Length of illness varies. In mild cases, fever can last over 3 weeks.
