A member asked:

Would most gynecologists be ok with a patient bringing her boyfriend to her first visit?

Up to the patient : If the patient is comfortable addressing sensitive issues in the presence of her boyfriend, most mds do not restrict that. Confidentiality is between the md and patient, and things discussed in confidence. If you are comfortable with him there, then it is up to you. Just be sure you are ok answering "personal" questions your md may have in an honest manner. I assume he wants to go with you.

Yes, but...: If the boyfriend waits in the waiting room, then there is no problem. If he is in the exam room, the woman will possibly be sharing all of her medical, sexual, and reproductive history with somone who may not be in a long term relationship with her, and could use this information against her in the future. This scenario is not recommended.
