TEETH!: Teething has been blamed for everything. I have heard parents blame teething for diarrhea, fever, rashes, drooling, feeding problems, sleep problems, biting, crying, etc. Each child is different. Some babies have been shown to get low grade fever (99.5-100.5) for one of two days before and after a tooth erupts. They can also have tenderness or bruising of the gum around the erupting tooth.

Pains and fever: Pain demonstrated by crying, irritable clingy baby. Kids tend to be worse in late afternoon and middle of the night. Babies may chew and drool and refuse to eat as much as normal. Some kids will put hands in mouth, some kids may pull at ears. Some kids may have loose stools, runny nose, rashes, diaper rash, etc.

That depends: Some babies have no symptoms at all. Most will have excess saliva, want to chew on things and perhaps be a little cranky. A few may develop low grade fever and/or mild diarrhea. If more severe symptoms develop the baby should be evaluated by their pediatrician as they may have a cold or illness in addition to teething.
