About A Week: Lorazepam (brand name ativan) is a benzodiazepine used in the short-term treatment of anxiety, insomnia, acute seizures including status epileptics, sedation of hospitalized patients and sedation of aggressive patients. It is a short-acting drug with no active metabolites. It has potential for tolerance and dependence so the fda recommends using only for 2 to 4 weeks. Withdrawal can be dangerous.
