Depends: On the virus in question; cmv, vzv, and influenza have established treatments... But others do not. The location of the virus is not as important as the virus itself - most tend to go wherever they may. If bone marrow is affected that affects the chances of recovery, as lymphocytes and monocytes are produced there and are essential for recovery from any infection.
