Several things: There is no great way to prevent bunions except to wear a proper fitting shoe that does not press on the toe. Bunions are technically increased bone growth often due to irritation and pressure.

Conservative care: A bunion is a progressive disorder which usually has a genetic component. Bunions may also result from trauma or due to a biomechanical abnormality. Prevention options include the use of bunion toe spacers, strapping, orthoces, and use of more comfortable shoes.
