Lupus: Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can afffect any organ system. Most commonly, joints become inflammed (painful and sometimes swollen). Skin rashes are common as well, especially on the face; when distributed over the cheeks , this rash is called a malar rash. Oral ulcers are sometimes noted and fever can be present as well. Pleuritic chest pains that worsen with deep breaths can occur.
