It is considered to: Have advantages by many people who continue the practice. It is seen as a way to ensure a female's virginity & fidelity especially when there is infibulation (external tissues are sewn together). Some consider female genitalia to be disgusting or ugly & fgm is seen as improving esthetics & enhancing purity. Some men find sex with infibulation more stimulating -although it can be horrifically.
