My aunt is in hospital, she was bitten by a dog and got infected. how serious is this?

Depends: On where she was bitten, how much tissue damage there was, what the organisms were which were transmitted by the dog, how old she is and what other illnesses she may have, whether she has been exposed to rabies, tetanus, etc. This should be discussed with her doctor.
