Office procedure: Many offices or urgent care centers are set up to drain an abscess in the office under a local anesthetic. In the mean time you can apply moist heat to the area and it may come to a head & drain spontaneously. It would still need to be looked at but that should relieve some of the pain until you can get in.

Go anyway: This might be an instance where you don't give your daughter a choice. If there is an infection visit a doctor. Then can treat the abscess or prescribe the correct antibiotic.
