How can you prevent getting addicted to pain meds?

Addicted?: Addiction is an unlikely occurence in persons without a history of previous addiction or substance abuse issues. Other predisposing factors include a family history of addiction(alcoholism, etc) and certain psychiatric conditions. There is no known way to avoid addiction other than not taking the medication.
