It varies.: The number of people who develop dysplasia in UC varies, depending on the extent of colon involvement, its severity, and the duration of the colitis. The general recommendation is to get checked out if your colitis extends beyond the sigmoid colon and has been present for eight or more years. It is a good sign that you are in remission.
