Yes: There are several including an ileoanal anastamosis, end ileostomy, continent ileostomy and others. You should discuss this with your colorectal surgeon.

It depends.....: If you need your colon and rectum removed you can either have an ileostomy or pelvic pouch. Depending on the reason for surgery there may be alternatives but for the restoration of bowel function - no bag - but nothing as effective as a pelvic pouch!
