If caught in time: Hypothyroidism only affects weight when it is poorly treated because of not complying with instructions or has been ongoing for a long time before diagnosis(inital symptoms are very vague). Weight issues are over- attributed to thyroid dysfunction that it has become an urban legend.

If you have lost more than 10% of your pre-pregnancy weight or are severely dehydrated you may need to be hospitalized for IV fluids and nausea medications. Losing 1 stone (14 lbs) is ok if you weighed 140 lbs or more at the start of your pregnancy as long as you can keep some fluids down.

Google up "BMI": Bmi stands for body-mass index. It's based solely on height and weight. You enter your height and weight, and you will get a bmi number. A bmi of 30 or over is "obese, " and a bmi under 18 is underweight. This will give you a start. Good luck. Lgromko md.
