Plateletpheresis is: The removal of platelets by a continuous flow device. That is whole blood flows from the patient/donor. The blood is spun in a centrifuge, and the platelets are removed, with the wbcs, rbcs and plasma being returned. The most common circumstance is regular donors giving products to support leukemia and stem cell transplant patients. In cases of very high platelet counts this can be done.
