Oral appliances: Oral airway appliances can be effective when used with good compliance. These are typically fashioned by oral/maxillofacial specialists. The nasal strips (such as breathe right) are not effective when the snoring is occuring at the level of the palate and tongue base. The most appropriate management of snoring begins with a thorough upper airway evaluation and sleep study if necessary.

Sleep apnea: Loud snoring could be a symptom of sleep apnea. Rather than attempt over the counter remedies, i would want to evaluate a patient with loud snoring to determine if the snoring was a symptom of a more significant medical condition.
