Is it common to throw up after having your wisdom teeth removed?

It happens. : When your whole muth is numb you swallow as a reaction anyway. But if you add blood, yucky tasting anesthetic and excess saliva from the surgery then you might throw up. Also, if you had general anesthesia...Some people don't tolerate it to well. Earl.

It happens: It is one of the risks when having wisdom teeth removed. It is most often a reaction to the medications given.

Usually not: It depends if you have had sedation. Usually, the nausea and vomiting is due to the sedation and not the removal of the wisdom teeth. Narcotic pain medications such as vicodin can have a side effect of throwing up. Some patients may throw up if they happen to swallow a small amount blood.

Yes: Sometimes as a response to IV sedation. Sometimes a response to postop oral narcotics. If you are prone to postop nausea/vomiting, tell your oral surgeon. There are precautions he can take. If you already have the problem postop, try to have some food on your stomach before taking your pain meds.
