Multiple cells types: The heart and blood vessels that form the cardiovascular system are complex organs composed of many different cell types. The entire system is lined with endothelial cells, a type of epithelial cell. The heart and vessels also contain smooth muscle and nerve cells, that regulate vessel constriction and the pumping of the heart. Tough outer coverings are made up of other epithelial cells.
