A member asked:

Is it easy to feel for a parathyroid tumour? how can you tell a tumour from a lymph node?

Not palpated: Parathyroid glands are located behind the thyroid gland and are small. They cannot be detected by palpation. Lymph nodes are located in specific sites and are pea size and firm texture. However remember tumors can occur in lymph nodes and are suspected when unusually large and hard.

Rare: Parathyroid tumors are rarely large enough to be palpable. They are behind skin, fat, 3 layers of muscle, and your thyroid gland, making them quite difficult to detect by hand.
