Im doing a project on athletes foot (tinea pedis) and i was wondering why it's called that?

Which one?: It is called athletes foot because gym goers easily spread the fungus to each other by walking barefoot in showers and locker rooms, and because the fungus loves moist, dark environments. It's called tinea pedis medically because tinea is any non-invasive fungal infection that eats the keratin in our skin and pedis means "foot". Tinea corporis, or ring worm, is a similar infection onthebody.

Fungus + foot: Tinea is the medical term for a fungal infection and pedis is a latin term for foot.
