Dermatophytes: Jock itch and athletes foot are caused by fungi called dermatophytes. They are normal inhabitants of our skin. If conditions such as moisture and warmth are excessive these dermatophytes grow , thrive and cause fungal infections. These fungal infections can spread from body part to body part and even from person to person. Keep the areas dry and clean. If you get an infection there are otc meds.
