You must have worked a certain number of hours for the company, and there are other restrictions (such as whether you have a key position, etc.) however, if you are eligible for fmla, you can use it to help care for an ill relative, no matter where the relative lives! here are the rules: http://www.Dol.Gov/whd/fmla/.
