A member asked:

Is it ok to use over-the-counter artificial tears, without being ordered by an eye doctor to use them?

Yes: Artificial tears are very safe and don't result in inhibition of your normal tearing. Prolonged use of artificial tears can result in sensitivity to the preservatives causing redness, irritation and burning when dropping them in. Preservative free tears are available.

Artificial teara: Yes. It is ok to use artificial tears for dry or irritated eyes up to 3 or 4 times a day. If the problem does not resolve, you should see an eye doctor to check your eyes.
