Usually 2000-5000 IU: Although the recent institute of medicine guidelines recommended only 600 iu for adults including pregnant women, this was based solely on bone health. The july, 2011 guidelines from the endocrine society recommend up to 10, 000 iu to obtain a blood level of at least 50 ng/ml. Have your blood tested.
