Yes: Ocular irritation is normal in the days following surgery. This should gradually improve and can be helped with over-the-counter pain relievers (ask you retina specialist first). If the pain is severe or does not lessen in time, it may be a more serious issue. Ask your retina specialist.

The procedure involves removing the vitreous gel, peeling membranes off the retina and adding a temporary gas bubble. Cataract, retinal detachment, and lack of closure are possible complications.
