Vitrectomy eye surgery if macula hole retinal detachment?

Yes: Most common procedure to repair a retinal detachment resulting from a macular hole is a vitrectomy (remove the fluids from the back of the eyeball), replace it with a gas, and position the patient face down for some period of time (sometimes weeks) to allow the hole to close and the detachment to resolve. Most macular holes do not cause a detached retina, but many require a similar operation.

Agree: Macular hole repair with or without a retinal detachment need to be addressed through an internal approach using vitrectomy techniques. Gas, or oil and face down positioning may also be used.
