Varied: Symptoms can be variable. The most common are shortness of breath at rest or with exertion, fast heart rate, chest pain. Syncope can also occur. Symptoms can be nonspecific and some patients are asymptomatic making the diagnosis difficult at times.

Symptoms...: Pulmonary embolus or pe can happen in patients without any symptoms. If there are any symptoms, the most common symptoms are shortness of breath with increased heart rate. The patient tends to have a low oxygen level. There may be leg swelling if the clot originated in the leg, the most common scenario.
