Several: Brain aneurysms may be hereditary in only about 15% of cases. Rare diseases such as Marfan syndrome or polycystic kidney disease can be associated with brain aneurysms. General risk factors such as atherosclerosis, high blood pressure or cigarette smoking may also predispose to aneurysm formation.
