A member asked:

My grandpa is 72 years old and has an unruptured brain aneurysm. he has no other health problems. what would be his mortality rate if he were to get surgery to fix it?

He may not need surgery. Some brain aneurysms can be treated through and endovascular procedure. An interventional radiologist can insert a coil into the aneurysm through blood vessels in the neck and obliterate the aneurysm. Talk to your doctor. Wish you and your grandpa good health!

Depending on size and location, surgery of any sort may not be a smart option. There is fairly good data suggesting that congenital berry aneurysms have a higher chance of rupture if they exceed 0.9 cm in size. An interventional radiologist could provide advice regarding non-surgical approaches, if appropriate.
