Will using santyl ointment and xeroform dressing together slow down the healing process on a venous stasis ulcer

No: Santyl is an ointment that loosens up abnormal tissue from the wound. Xeroform ia a nonstick gauze like material that prevents the outside dressing from sticking to the wound. This is a good start to healing they wound but the goldstandard is a? Multilayer compression dressing.

Wound care products: Your clinicians have chosen two of 4000+ products to treat your wound. Collagenase is in an ointment base and is an enzyme deb riding agent that is being used in your wound. The xeroform dressing is adherent and helps promote moist healing. Discuss these products with your clinician to learn more on why they were chosen.

Not if used properly: Santyl and xeroform can be used in conjunction to aid the enzymatic debridement of necrotic tissue in wounds. With venous stasis, there is another - bigger - issue. That is the blood flow out of the leg (venous return) is impaired. The wounds associated with venous stasis also require some sort of compression in order to decrease the amount of edema around them.

Venous stasis ulcer.: The gold standard to treat venous stasis ulcer is to treat the underlying cause of the ulcer which is reflux due to malfunctioning valves of the venous system. Once these are treated then the pressure causing the ulcer will be reduced and the ulcer should start to heal. The goal of wound care for the ulcer is to keep it clean. Santyl and xeroform should not impede the healing process.
