Both short acting...: Both are used in dosing intervals of every 4-6 hours, and without any other major medical problems, should be fine when taken at that interval, i.e. 4-6 hours apart. Taken together, there is an interaction of increased drowsiness and respiratory depression, so it's always best to check with your doctor first if their instructions weren't clear.

4 hours: Both are analgesics with similar adverse effects. I would suggest waiting 4 hours.
