Not related: They shouldn't necessarily be related, but it certainly is possible to have both thyroid hormone problems as well as diabetes. If you have concerns about either problem, make sure you discuss them with your doctor. An easy blood test can assess your thyroid hormone levels and screen for kidney issues as well. Best wishes.

Protein bound: For many reasons total thyroid hormone levels are not reliable indicators of thyroid function because the results are often low and don't represent true thyroid function. Protein losing nephropathy gives more reason to measure free thyroid hormone levels, which represent active thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormone is not typically low because of kidney disease by itself.
