Differences: These two medicines share similarities, but they have different chemical structures, leading to different actions on the nervous system. Fluoxetine almost exclusively acts on the neurotransmitter serotonin, while duloxetine has a mixed action on both serotonin and norepinephrine. This difference will sometimes result in a person doing better with one medicine versus the other.
