My wife has mucocele that does not seem to heal for months now. it is painless but just looks odd. what are the options?

Surgery: A persistent mucocele should be marsupialized or excised. There is also the option of careful observation, with the hope that it will spontaneously decompress and form scar tissue that can prevent recurrence. This is less likely since the mucocele has persisted for months.

Have it removed: A mucocele occurs when a salivary gland becomes occluded and the saliva accumulates in the gland producing the appearance similar to a fluid filled blister. The recommended procedure would be to remove the affected gland and associated glands in close proximity to the incision to prevent occlusion from the sutures. If not removed, it will likely return if it is simply drained.
