Asacol (mesalamine): Asacol (mesalamine) is a good benign drug for ulcerative colitis of the large bowel. I would use sulfasalazine for small intestinal disease, or regional enteritis.

Yes: But it is best used everyday to help maintain remission. Other medications include rectal mesalamine, steroids (oral/rectal) and remicade/humira.
