Short answer:No: Asacol (mesalamine) (other names in US but are meselamine long acting.Asacol (mesalamine) available from Canada under other names) will turn the inflammn. to "quiescent"but not normal.If only in left colon there is no risk of colon cancer in future.If in entire colon(pancolitis):after 10 years annual colonoscopy & 4 quadrant biopsy every 10cms to check for dysplasia.Important to keep taking meselamine even if no symptoms.
