TO shoot or not?: First, you don't want a shot of Ampicillin - you would want a shot of penicillin, because there is a long acting form of that which will treat your strep throat. There is no long acting ampicillin. Then, it depends on each individual - if you are good about remembering to take your oral medicine and take them all, then pills work fine. If not, or you are vomiting, then the shot's the way to go.
