Numerous: Mitral valve prolapse can be diagnosed by physical examination and echocardiography. The physical examination will reveal a midsystolic click and a late systolic murmur. Echocardiography will be able to show prolapse of the mitral valve into the left atrium, a thickened mitral valve, and possibly mitral regurgitation.
